Hunger Plus Program

Judy Hutcherson, Rotary member of the Fredericksburg Morning club and District Governor for the coming Rotary year, described the Hunger Plus program. This is a program that Rotarians participate in by providing support for communities just across the Mexican border. Several times a year, Rotarians take the trip to Boquillas and other nearby small towns. Support includes donating school supplies, library books and toiletries to families in need.
These small towns in Mexico have no electricity, very little income and rely on small gardens and a few livestock for their subsistence. There is no medical care in these villages, so doctors and nurses from the Hunger Plus team provide much needed help in the way of examinations and prescription drugs.
The program volunteers, including students from the Fredericksburg schools, also constructed a small clinic, and built screens for the doors and windows of the houses.
Anyone interested in volunteering for this program, either locally or joining them on the trips, is encouraged to contact Judy for more information.
