We want to instill Happiness, Joy, Love, Acceptance, and help them Develop Relationship and to Teach Them Along The Way.  What a fantastic philosophy for a school.  To teach them along the way.   I had the pleasure of listening to Crystal Dockery speak of her beloved Hunt ISD last Wednesday,  the emotion of runny noses needing hugs and understanding came through with each sentence.

Hunt ISD has 157 pre-k through 9 students, 46% of whom are economically disadvantaged and 4 are homeless.  This ISD is set on School Lane in Hunt, Texas.  These children are offered unique programs that are not seen in other schools. In Hunt, programs are designed to help instill happiness, joy, love, acceptance and to teach along the way.

The Hunt Discovery Garden (4th and 5th grade) has a small strip of land that uses a lasagna method.  They raise raise crops such as bok-choy, broccoli, cauliflower,  and flowers and sell them at the farmers market.

CAMPS  Computer technology  -  presently in this class they are working on a news broadcast
Art     Art is displayed at various locations such as Elaine's table and the Hunt Store
Music   various programs are present through out the year  Veterans Day is the next program
PE         several physical education classes are ongoing daily

Another program is"The Eagle Branch Bank" that is teaching a practical application of banking and financial responsibility.  Hunt ISD is partnered with Wells Fargo Bank and is opening a savings account that money can be deposited into.  Students earn  vouchers for doing their jobs - coming to school, doing their homework, making various grades and other various markers.   The money they bank can be used in the school store or can be given to another student, animal shelter or to help feed another.

PYOE  Is for girls in the 7-8 grades to Purse Your Own Excellence.

RAD  Is for Reason and Direction for young gentlemen.

Lunch Buddies is a program for adults to come and be with a child and become friends.

They also have a Program called Eagles Nest Mentoring Program.

Crystal spoke with pride about each and everyone of these programs.  I did not do justice to them and could not find information about all of them online. What came through most clearly was that the children learned.  They learned not only respect and pride for their community, but in themselves and their accomplishments and in each other.  This is what comes of and teach along the way.  Remember she said "We want to instill Happiness, Joy, Love, Acceptance, and help them Develop Relationship and to Teach Them Along The Way."
