The program for last Wednesday was Schreiner University’s basketball programs. Coach Temain Wright (Women’s team coach) and Connor Kuykendall (Men’s team coach) provided an overview of the teams and recent performances. Being a Division III University, athletic scholarships are not provided, so the athletes play for the love and competitiveness of the game. Student athletes typically comprise between 25-35% of the school enrollment, and many do benefit from partial academic scholarships.
The Women’s team played has made quite a comeback from a previous losing streak spanning several seasons, and made it to the conference championship game last season. The Men’s team is looking to improve on their 10-15 season last year. They are headed to the state of Washington over the Thanksgiving holidays to play two highly ranked Division III teams.
