Rose Bradshaw, City Liaison of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (KCPAAA) introduces President Tom Whiting, who informed the group about the role the Academy plays in Kerrville law enforcement.  The KCPAAA consists entirely of graduates of the Kerrville Police Department (KPD) Citizen Police Academy, and according to Tom, are concerned citizens who use their "talent & time" to benefit the KPD and the community at large.

The KCPAA assists the KPD with administrative support and by participating in other appropriate police department activities. Members of the Citizen Police Academy and Alumni Association work the Duty Desk from 8AM - 5PM, help enforce parking laws (including handicap parking enforcement), and assist the KPD with the Neighborhood Patrol Program, including residential vacation security checks.  The KCPAAA also supports the KPD's semi-annual Kerrville Citizen Police Academy and annual Junior Police Academy classes.  Additionally, the KCPAAA provides other policing assistance in the form of fingerprinting, parade duty, and other event support including the community Drug Take Back.

Providing financial support to help the KPD meet needs uncovered by the City of Kerrville budget and promoting other special events that enhance the image of the police department are also important functions of the KCPAAA.  The KCPAAA holds gun raffles and other fundraising events to help the KPD meet unplanned financial needs or address funding shortfalls.  They also help promote activities such as the National Night Out, Salvation Army Backpack Bash and Blue Santa program.

The Kerrville Rotary clubs will play a big part in the success of the 2016 Blue Santa program.  Last year, Blue Santa provided 110 children from 46 families in the Kerrville area with an estimated $13,150 in clothes and toys.  Over $2,000 of that total was provided by our Kerrville Rotary clubs. Look for more information regarding our opportunities to get involved in the coming meetings!

The KCPAAA is always looking for concerned citizens who want to make a positive impact in the community.  If your interested in becoming part of the Kerrville Citizen Police Academy, please contact Rose Bradshaw at 830-257-4101, email at info@kerrvillecitizenpolice.com, or visit their website at www.kerrvillecitizenpolice.com.  The KCPAAA is also a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions are tax deductible.
