American Red Cross

 

Jacques DeBose provided the program on the American Red Cross at the meeting last Wednesday. Jaques retired from the navy,  served on the city council in Boerne, and now is the executive director of the Hill Country Chapter of the Red Cross. This organization provides disaster relief for numerous local and national events, and has a large volunteer base. The Chapter recently helped with flood victims in Eagle Pass and wildfires in Edwards County.

 

Other services include educating the public in classrooms and after school programs, including the Home Fires Campaign, and encouraging the establishment of  fire escape plans from homes and installing smoke detectors. The Red Cross also trains people each year to prepare for and respond to life threatening situations through babysitting, first aid, CPR, lifeguarding and learn to swim programs.
