The current proposed method of funding school choice is an Educational Savings Account, whereby parents would be eligible for state government funds to use toward tuition and other related expenses at a private school of their choice. This is often referred to as a voucher program.
Proponents of school choice say parents want more control over what is taught to their kids, and competition should be an incentive to make all schools perform better. Those that question the need for school choice are concerned that it will drain money and resources from public schools, and it uses taxpayer money to fund private schools without the oversight and transparency required in public schools.

Most people agree that this voucher program is likely to pass in the next state legislative session.
