Spoke Editor’s note:

As you probably know by now, Joe Benham passed away last Thursday, July 30th, 2016. At last Wednesday's meeting, in honor of Independence Day, he spoke about the freedoms our country enjoys, thanks to the sacrifices of many who came before us. Joe's funeral is set for Wednesday July 6th at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville. The following is his last Family in Rotary, which he composed a couple of days before he died. We are very grateful for the service Joe provided to our club, including these weekly reports on the members of our Rotary Family, and we will miss him.

From Joe:

I regret very much to report that we lost a member of our Rotary family Sunday night, when Dick Fitch passed away.

The information I have  is that Dick went into the hospital last week with reparatory problems and that while he was there they found a problem that required abdominal surgery.  He seemed to come out of the surgery OK, but then became progressively weaker and passed way.
The last word I have is that services will be set after all of his children get here from California.  With Caroline's help, I'll get that word to you as soon as I have it.
Meantime, please keep Dick's family in your prayers.

I want to reiterate congratulations to our member Tammy Prout for the first, second and third-place awards received by the Community Journal at the Texas Press Assn. convention.  As most of you know, Tammy and her staff are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their paper.

This is Mike Graxiola's last week as Publisher and Editor of the Daly Times.  As a columnist for that paper, I can affirm that he has not only been a good and very supportive boss but more importantly, he's been totally dedicated to the good of this community, in keeping with our Service Above Self motto as Rotarians.  In addition to giving a lot of space to community events and programs, Mike has served as an officer or board member of a long list of the worthy causes in Kerrville.   So please join me in wishing Mike a very enjoyable and well-earned retirement.
