Hatch Smith

Clint introduces our guest

Hatch Smith is a native of Llano with a background in agriculture, business, finance, and management.  He is currently the chief administrative officer and administrator for MidCoast Medical Center-Central, which is the result of a community-wide effort to save a failing hospital.

A few years back, Hatch learned the hospital in Llano was on the verge of shutting down, so he facilitated the negotiation to save the hospital, in addition to reestablishing a local hospital foundation that has been instrumental in raising nearly $500,000 in local donations to keep the hospital running. Under his leadership, he has overseen the healthcare system in its expansion into surrounding towns, improved health care for area residents, and more than doubled the number of local employment opportunities associated with the hospital, which now operates in a profitable manner.

Hatch is also a multi-generational rancher in Llano County dating back to the 1850’s, and is the owner of RedSmith Genetics, a registered seed stock operation that specializes in breeding Brahman and Tarentaise cattle. In addition, he manages D.P. Smith & Sons, a cow and calf operation that processes and runs yearlings.

Hatch has been appointed by Governor Abbott twice, as a board member of the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and as a member of the Governor’s Broadband Council. In 2022 he was the Llano Chamber of Commerce Community Hall of Fame Award Winner.

Hatch earned an Animal Science degree from Cornell University and a masters degree in business from S.M.U.  He and his wife, Sarabeth, are committed Christians. They are the proud parents of two children, Marykate (7) and Hatch III (4). The Smiths enjoy raising and showing red and gray brahman cattle and hunting.

He is running for Texas House District 53. there are 16 counties. See this link to see his platform and the size of the district. https://hatchsmithfortexas.com/district-53/.
He is concerned about Water, infrastructure on power, Rule hospital care. He noted 27 hospitals closed since 2013.
He kept the rooms attention the whole time.
