VISITING GUEST:
Walt Koenig with the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce spoke to the Satellite group on June 20th. Walt reviewed the Chamber goals of the 800-member organization which is to be responsive to membership and their member’s business needs. They have hired a new COO and deputy, Rachel London. The new leaders of the Chamber emphasize that they want to be more than a fundraising committee and social networking organization. They will focus on:
  1. Education – coffee talk program, seminars, strategic planning
  2. Mentor programs — young professional forums, retirement community service forums
  3. Government advocacy — addition of government affairs committee, building communications
In addition, the Chamber has a committee dedicated to a comprehensive city plan. And finally, Walt highlighted the Leadership Kerr County program which is an intensive nine month program that immerses members and their employees in topics that are important to our community such as economic development, social services, education, government, healthcare, environment, tourism, travel & leisure and others. Leadership Kerr County teaches leadership through team-building and the completion of a class project.
 
CLUB NEWS:
This month is Courtney Compton’s last month to lead our group. Tricia Byrom will step up as Chair beginning in July.
