Schreiner Student Hagan Fryrear

Schreiner Student Daneece Stewart

Schreiner University kicked off its Hill Country College Fund campaign last Wednesday at the annual luncheon.  The funds raised provide scholarships for Hill Country area students at the university, and 100% of the money raised goes to the students. Several Rotarians played a role in the campaign, with Roy Thompson being the chairman of the HCCF, Kim Clarkson heading up the Advanced Gifts, and Stephanie Skrumeda leading the Business Gifts Division.
The highlight of the luncheon was hearing from two Schreiner students who have benefitted from the HCCF. Hagan Fryrear, a Tivy graduate who played baseball and was on the drum line in high school, related how he had intentions of going to Texas A&M, beginning at Blinn College. After a year, he transferred to Schreiner, played baseball for a year, and is now concentrating on his studies in Business with an emphasis in Marketing. He currently works at the James Avery retail store in Kerrville, and will be starting an internship with them this week.
Daneece Stewart went to high school in Junction, and had aspirations of playing softball for a bigger college. But, after visiting Schreiner, she made the commitment to go to there, plays softball and is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a peer ministry leader. Both Hagan and Daneece were very appreciative of the scholarships, and said they could not have attended Schreiner without the help.
