Crystal Dockery introduced our speaker, Bobby Templeton, who educated us about a program that Ingram and Hunt ISD provides for its students and families to help with hunger. Locally and nationwide, many families living in poverty are not able to provide decent meals for their children. During the week, federally subsidized programs provide assistance to the schools through free or reduced cost meal programs. On weekends however, these children often have little to eat, and that’s where the Blessings in a Backpack program helps. Every Friday afternoon, nutritious non perishable food items are packaged and provided to kids in need so they don’t have to go hungry over the weekend. They have also established a Clothes Closet where gently used clothing is available to those in need. You may contact Bobby Templeton at Ingram ISD or Crystal at Hunt ISD for information about donating to these programs.
